Yo'True - Wild Rice
I made this record in 2012 with Henry Danowski, Peter Miles, James Bragg and Luke Leighfield. It came out in 2013 on limited numbers of fluorescent orange and clear vinyl.
I illustrated and coloured all the cover artwork and labels by hand and edited it in Photoshop. The final artwork files were prepared for print in InDesign.
I wanted to figure out why Michael McDonald was the best songwriter in the world, but I didn’t have the time or inclination to study music theory and I’m not much of a keyboard player. After a lot of thought (always had plenty of time for this, strangely) I constructed this record by layering sounds, guessing chords, and playing with words and feelings. I challenged my ability to its limits.
Wild Rice is 8 tracks of colourful music that recall everybody and nobody and skirt virtually all of the unpopular genres, and some people really like it.
